Known as the “Las Vegas of the North” it certainly did feel like that waiting backstage for my turn to take to the mic. Watching the other acts prepare for their moment of fame made me realise that this is definitely something I want to be doing more of, hopefully without the 6hr wait before getting on stage!! That being said when my moment came the theatre had a large and enthusiastic crowd. Was it all fuelled by the quality of the entertainment on show or the copious amounts of alcohol available at the bar, whichever it was the atmosphere was great and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
I went with no real expectations, I knew there would be booking agents there and if I could show them what I have then there is a good chance that more work could come my way. I will get a 10-min video of my performance (that I will upload once I have it) and had the opportunity to take to a big stage and work the audience. It did make me realise that entertainment doesn’t just come from the vocals but from the stagecraft, something I will be working hard on.
Definitely a worthwhile experience and something I would consider doing again once I am a bit more polished. If you are an emerging artist or someone looking to broaden your horizons then check out https://www.showcase-productions.com/ for details of their next event.
The showcase was reviewed by Cabaret UK and here’s what editor Mark Ritchie had to say about the performance:
“Singer Marc Ravel gave us a glimpse of his Magic of Bublé and his well-pitched voice and easy charm made him a real winner.”
